Caring, Sharing & Serving in the name of Jesus

We, the people of Yale Avenue Christian Church, experience God’s welcoming love through Jesus Christ and affirm the worth, dignity and gifts of all people.

As disciples of Christ, we seek God’s wholeness in a fragmented world by proclaiming the inclusive message of Jesus and practicing unity through shared worship, community service, and open dialogue.

We host the table as Christ did, offering a wide welcome to membership and full participation in the ministries of the church to people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, races, ethnicities, nationalities, disabilities, family structures, backgrounds, economic circumstances, and theological and political perspectives.

We nurture the Spirit of justice in our life and ministry in Tulsa by working to embody God’s love, peace, and hope. We welcome you.

Who We Are

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement of wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s table, as God has welcomed us. – Disciples Identity Statement.

There are two sayings by early pioneers of the Christian Church:

“We have no doctrine, but the Bible. No creed but Christ”

and “In essentials unity; in non-essentials liberty, in all things, charity."

What We Believe

There are things we believe are essential - where we need to be united in thought and purpose. In the essentials we have unity. Ephesians 4: 4-6 “There is one body and one Spirit, there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all.”

But there are a lot of things in the Christian life that are not essentials. They’re open to interpretation as you study, pray, and ask God to show you His will. There are some things you’re going to differ from other people on. We consider these to be non-essentials and in those we can have diversity. However, in all our beliefs, in all things we have love, we have charity.
